When evaluating water filters, it is important to understand what the filter specifications actually refer to. Many manufacturers claim to filter out certain contaminants, such as pesticides, without clearly stating the maximum particle size their filters are effective against.
Conventional activated carbon filters typically operate with an effective pore size of no more than about 0.1 micrometers. Contaminants smaller than this pore size cannot be reliably retained physically. With simple countertop or carafe filters, the effective filtration performance is often limited to just a few micrometers, meaning that a large portion of relevant contaminants remains in the water. Many providers do not disclose pore size information at all, or only provide incomplete details.
Dropvital takes a different technological approach. The filter cartridges are designed to have a significantly finer and more uniform structure than traditional activated carbon filters. Independent tests have demonstrated that this technology can effectively reduce very small contaminant particles down to the nanometer range. The filtration performance thus significantly exceeds what is technically achievable with conventional activated carbon.
Another key difference lies in the filter’s design and long-term stability. Conventional activated carbon filters tend to develop what is known as “channeling” during operation. This creates preferred flow paths through which the water increasingly flows unfiltered. In addition, prolonged periods of inactivity can lead to microbial contamination of the filter material, which is why such filters often need to be replaced at short intervals.
Dropvital cartridges are designed to minimize these effects. The uniform flow rate and the material design prevent channels from forming or stored substances from being released back into the water. As a result, filter performance remains stable over a longer period, and cartridge replacement is generally required only once a year.
Dropvital systems are also designed for direct connection to the cold-water supply and deliver consistent filtration performance even at typical household flow rates. It should be noted that certain naturally occurring water constituents, such as iron or manganese, are not considered classic heavy metals and are not targeted by the filtration process.
In summary, the key difference is that dropvital does not rely on simple activated carbon, but rather on a precisely engineered filtration technology that operates consistently over the long term, has been transparently tested, and clearly distinguishes itself from conventional activated carbon filters.
